Fizz! Dancing sultanas! Try this at home! Density and a reaction.

Density is a scientific property that can tell you if something will sink or float.

Sultanas are more dense than water so they sink when put into the glass of water.
Vinegar = acid
Baking soda = alkaline

Vinegar and baking soda react together to form a gas called carbon dioxide which is released in the water in small bubbles.
Some bubbles rise to the top of the glass because they are less dense than water.

Some bubbles become attached to the wrinkles on the sultanas.

If there are enough bubbles trapped on the sultana then it becomes less dense and increases in volume so the sultana rises to the top.

When the sultana reaches the top of the water the bubbles burst and the sultana is back to being more dense and sinks.

Notices for All in Terrific 14

Hello Everyone in Terrific 14!

I hope you have all had a wonderful rest and fun holiday!

Next week we start practicing for Athletics Day, which is later in the term, so please bring your PE clothes and shoes in a bag. Mon Tue Wed Fri. Hats might be a good idea too on sunny days!

Also we are doing Science - Fizz Bang Pop! as our Inquiry so anyone who would like to bring along an experiment to 'Teach the Teacher' and class please see me on Monday. I can't wait to see some new ideas as well as provide children with the opportunity to share their own knowledge. We can plan a time for those children to do this on days in the coming weeks.

See you all Monday!
