Cultural Performance Assembly - Kaya, Stevie-Mei, Aston and Rylee

Our Kapa Haka Group perform for the whole school and their whanau. Here they are welcoming us into the Hall with a waiata.

A Samoan Siva - a dance, telling a story with their hands, along with singing and music. 

Kaya's uncle wrote new music and sang a cool A Haka mana with the Koru Whanau. Mrs Harding has been teaching us this song this term in our Te Reo and Tikanga Maori classes.

Science in a Van comes to Sunnyhills - what do you notice, see, wonder?

Forces are part of the Physics area of Science - an area often forgotten about when talking to children about Science.

Today we learned about the push and pull of forces. Alan and Emily took us through the play of The Three Billy Goats Gruff and the effect of friction on the push and pull of an object.

Here is Alan playing the part of the Troll.

Here is Emily playing the part of the Big Billy Goat with her muscles which give her the strength to use the force.

Here is the middle sized Billy Goat with the silky material which is going to decrease the friction and help her use her force to push the Troll out of the way.

And Away We Go! Scootering Safety with Andy from Auckland Transport!

After our Monday scootering session we have learned to emergency stop, look out for pedestrians, brake effectively, turn left and right, use both feet - one at a time - to brake and how to fit helmets so they do not fall off when we fall over!

Andy from AT talks to us about crossing the road and where you should be getting out of the car safely.

Andy came to talk to us about what is good road sense around our school. We talked about Stop Look Listen before crossing the road including the pedestrian crossing on Fordyce Road as some drivers think they do not have to stop even if you are waiting to cross!! He told the class to tell their parents to not use their phones in the car and park in the correct places around our school. We have a problem with this in our community and sometimes it is up to children to remind the adults so children do not get hurt!

Rhythm Interactive drumming at school!

We have never seen so many drums in one place at a time! Johnny from Rhythm Interactive was an awesome teacher with great easy to follow chants and patterns to follow. He started us with a basic beat and then progressed to harder rhythms to listen and follow. He had us spellbound and we really enjoyed it! We hope he comes back again to visit - we would love to have another go!
