Cultural Performance Assembly - Kaya, Stevie-Mei, Aston and Rylee

Our Kapa Haka Group perform for the whole school and their whanau. Here they are welcoming us into the Hall with a waiata.

Stevie-Mei and Kaya from our class sang beautifully.

Our new Pasifica group performing for the very first time!
Rylee and Aston from R14 are learning haka and waiata in Te Reo.
Rylee's big brother, Shayden, was a great leader today.

A Samoan Siva - a dance, telling a story with their hands, along with singing and music.
Kaya's uncle wrote new music and sang a cool A Haka mana with the Koru Whanau. Mrs Harding has been teaching us this song this term in our Te Reo and Tikanga Maori classes.

Rylee and Aston after their performance.

Stevie-Mei all dressed up after the performance.

Kaya and Stevie-Mei looking so stunning.

And the Bee Man has rescued the bee hive! All safe! What a crazy way to end the school day!

The bees estimated at 20 000, were following their Queen, and had outgrown the hive where they had come from. We don't know where that was. This is where they decided to start building a new hive. The Bee Man has carefully taken the hive and the Queen. The bees happily follow her where ever she goes - which is now Drury!!

Walk to school week

The whole school was invited to walk to school last week there was a theme every day - here is us on Twins/ Triplets Day:

Well done to those people who made the effort to walk when they normally drive all the way to school!!

Beau's Teach the Teacher

Beau taught us how to do card tricks. He demonstrated how to do a trick where Aston picked a card and only told Beau the column it was in. Then Beau rearranged the cards and Aston chose the column. Beau kept going until he identified the card correctly - very clever! A true magician never reveals his secrets!

Sunnyhills School Giant Walk

All the classes walked to the Snakes and Ladder playground - it wasn't hard and we loved walking with our R22 year 2 buddies! It just goes to show exercise is more fun with a friend!

Kiera's Teach the Teacher - Mentos and Coke!

Watch what we did with these ingredients!
Why do you think this happened? Can you name the gases involved?
Would we have the same result if the liquid was a different type?

Kiera's Assistant was Aayush today!

Please note the camera operator was surprised the fountain went so high and was unable to quite catch the height! We will try again if the weather behaves! But judging by all the squeals and shouts you hear I'm sure you can tell it was spectacular!

Note the affect of coke on these mentos! Compare it to the one at the bottom of the picture! This is a clear representation of what too much coke and too little teeth cleaning does! (It was Diet Coke so you can't blame the sugar)! Can you find out what coke does to other objects?

Chromatography - colour and water

Dipping the ends of strips of paper into a small amount of water and watching it be absorbed.

We first made predictions about what might happen to the colours. Will they spread, stay the same, go lighter or darker in colour shade?

We drew in felt pens on the paper - sometimes 2 colours that we knew could potentially mix together.

The interesting colour was black! Can you see what happened to that?
It was made of more than 1 colour!
