Tech Week NZ - Joining the live stream today with OMG tech!

What do you know about Rocket Lab?

How do rockets take off?

What is rocket propulsion?

What does a satellite do?

Can we live on Mars?

These were all questions we heard answered today when R14 joined in a live stream at 1:30pm today. We heard young students interviewing scientists who work for Rocket Lab in New Zealand talk about what it was that made them interested in Space. University Professors showed their satellite projects and real astronauts from the United States showed us what it was like to have no gravity. Then we started out with a simple rocket launch experiment ourselves:

We had such a lot of fun - try it at home!

Making maths multiplication and division relate to real life problem solving!

The Triangles group has been working on setting up a sports team with uniforms and sports equipment. We used the slide deck on our drive to start to think about what is needed when planning for a sport. What sport did you choose? Now find the price of the clothing on Rebel Sports or The Warehouse websites. Next list the equipment you need for that sport and do the same. Now use your multiplication skills to see if you can multiply the cost by the number of people in the team. Most people chose 10 because that is a times table they know. And 0 or zero are easier to use. We rounded the prices to whole numbers too and are about to present our findings. There is a lot of problem solving and maths talk in our class right now!

In Maths we have been practicing our family of facts using multiplication and division:

3 x 4 = 4 x 3

Using noodle boxes we have been sharing equally and dividing groups and writing the number sentence that describes the action.

Buddhist Temple Visit Year 3 and 4

What a beautiful place to visit. We all had an interesting time learning about the Buddhist Temple which is right in our suburban backyard.
Think good thoughts, say good words, do good deeds - 3 Gs
give others convenience, give others confidence, give others joy, give others hope - 4 Gs
How have you carried out these good deeds this weekend?

May the fourth be with you! In a galaxy far, far away...

In a galaxy far, far away, Jedi masters were required to enter a realm without touching a single laser beam - or suffer consequences as yet unknown,
" I have a bad feeling about this Chewbacca."

Next, those among us brave enough, created designs for Aliens encountered across the universe. We thought of species, strengths, weaknesses, powers and used our knowledge of space.

After that Tinker Time: we set about making BB-8 cross the desert safely through coding blocks and our mathematical patterning knowledge.

Next we relaxed alongside the Storm Troopers.

May the fourth be with you all weekend!
