Being Good Sorts - helping out in Year 2!

 Just for fun we helped Mrs Smaill's class with getting started on some word study and shared stories. It's great practice for us to develop our reading fluency and use expressive voices. This is one of our reading goals this term. We have already self assessed on an assessment rubric in our books. We hope to have improved by the end of the term. A peer will assess us at the end of the term.

Learning to write Metaphors

We are learning to write metaphors. We are going to include them on our postcards to Karori. We will describe ourselves using metaphorical descriptions.

To help us think creatively we started with what we could see and hear around us. Here we are walking around the school listening to sounds around us. We also listed colours, feelings, types of movement.

It takes All Sorts to be Good Sorts!

This is our new Inquiry from this week onwards until next term. It comes under our school wide umbrella topic of Manaakitanga and Kindness. We will be developing the ethic of caring throughout our school.
We have completed our Korowai as a class and are now in the midst of forming a Class Treaty.

This Inquiry will involve having people coming into school to talk to the Year 3 Whanau about their roles in the community. We start with Constable Merv Hotter this week. We also want the children to think about how people volunteer their time to serve our community in different ways. We want to show them how they can help others too. The children will learn that they can become Good Sorts no matter what their skills are - hence it takes All Sorts. Maybe you as a family could start to talk about this at home. Point out to children the St. Johns Ambulance volunteers at sports next time, the Coast Guard boats on the harbour, and maybe you yourself coach a soccer team or run a Pippins group.

Chapter Chat - tweeting experts!

Here we are tweeting in pairs this time. One person is the scribe and they are on the keyboard. The other person is discussing with the scribe how to tweet and what to tweet. 

The questions start at 10am Friday and keep feeding into Chapter Chat NZ 3/4. We have 9 questions to answer but there is so much information feeding in we also end up tweeting feedback to other classes and their work! If you want to follow us go to:

Mrs T asks us to show her the tweet before we tweet them. They are supposed to be in full sentences, correct punctuation and have our first names only.

It is so busy - we don't want to go to morning tea! 

THIS IS A GREAT WAY TO ENGAGE WITH OTHER CLASSES AND LEARN ABOUT OTHER NEW ZEALAND SCHOOLS. We look forward to reading the next set of chapters before next Friday so that we are ready to tweet again about THE TERRIBLE TWO.
