Koru Whanau learns to be Good Sorts too - ASB St Johns Ambulance in Schools programme visit.

Today Nikoli from St Johns came to teach us about how we can help others just like other volunteers in St Johns.

We need to know our address and phone number in case we ever have to ring 111 in an emergency.

Do you know your letter box number?
Your street name?
Your suburb?
Your city?
Your home or parent's mobile number?

Next we learned about how to help someone who has a bad cut. We learned about how to elevate a person's arm if they have a bad cut and use some cloth - like a tea towel - to put pressure on a cut to stop it bleeding. We learned how to make a bandage - use a towel or a t-shirt - to bandage a hand. How do you think we did?

Blake B was a great volunteer!

How is Laaibah doing?

How does Ethan feel?

Mmm - how did the wrapping go boys?

It was tricky at first but we improved as we went along! The patients were very patient!

Replanting the tyres on tree island thanks everyone - great team work!

Using Google Maps to improve our Geography Knowledge.

Now that the Commonwealth Games are about to begin in the Gold Coast, Australia, R14 decided to have a look at the countries in the Commonwealth Games. We were challenged by Mrs T to find as many as we could using our new tool Google Maps. We did a great job working collaboratively in twos or threes. As we went along we marked them on a map of the World.

Do you know how many countries are in the Commonwealth? How many can you find on a map of the World?

Speaking of Sport - Here is the Y3/4 Swimming Carnival last week!

The new heat pump was just put on and made it a great encouragement for everyone. The sun came out and we all enjoyed ourselves.

It was very impressive to see how many children challenged themselves to swim lengths and they were given the option of using a board or not. Thank you to the parents who came to watch - it really makes the children's day to see you!
